History of Vitiligo
The term Vitiligo was first used by a Roman physician in the 2nd century. It was derived from the Latin root word for "calf", "vitelius". It was frequently confused with leprocy. The earliest information we have about this disease is from 2200 B.C, from the Aushooryn period. Leprocy and Vitiligo were recognized as pigment loss diseases in 1500 B.C. It did not really get much spotlight attention until the 1990s when celebrities such as Michael Jackson and Amitabh Bachan were infected. Vitiligo is believed to have existed since pre-historic days, but it has only been scientifically explored recently.
